ABSTRACT: This research explores the role of early childhood education in developing sustainable consumption habits among young children. Early exposure to sustainable consumption practices can lead to lifelong environmentally responsible behaviors. Objectives were to assess children's understanding of sustainable consumption, identify effective educational practices, and evaluate the long-term impacts of early sustainable consumption education. A survey design was chosen for its capacity to gather comprehensive data. Purposive sampling was used to select 200 children from preschools in Abia State, Nigeria. Findings indicated that children exposed to sustainable consumption education demonstrated better understanding and practice of sustainable consumption behaviors. Activities such as interactive lessons on consumption practices, hands-on projects, and community initiatives were particularly effective. The study recommended integrating sustainable consumption education into early childhood programs to foster environmentally responsible consumption behaviors from an early age.
